Mine Geologist

Overall Job Purpose

  • To perform and lead the geological core operational and technical functions within the mine geology team, ensuring all geological data is delivered to best practice standards and on time so that all resource, ore control, and geological models can be accurately defined.
  • Provide support to key stakeholders to ensure all material can be delivered to the correct place and processed optimally by the operational teams.

Specific Job Responsibility 

  • Demonstration of a “safety first” focus by acting as a role model to all personnel.
  • Conduct ore delineation and control including efforts to minimize dilution, ore loss, and misclassification.
  • Conduct reverse circulation grade control planning, execution, supervision and sampling to best practice and QA/QC standards.
  • Undertake in-pit mapping and 3D interpretation.
  • Integration and interpretation of all geological and sampling data sets to create 3D geological, structural, geochemical, and geo-metallurgical models.
  • Assist with best practice material reconciliation and tracking.
  • Continuous liaison with key stakeholders, including mining operations, mining engineering, processing, geotechnical and hydro-geological teams to drive benefits aligned with business objectives.
  • Management and leadership of the mine geology reporting support teams, including both day-to-day core operations and long-term strategy, driving quality and standards in the teams’ work and efficiencies.
  • Assist with the management and control of the quality and standards of consistent and secure databases and information storage.
  • Provide support with preparation of geological and operations reports and official communications.
  • Assist the Senior Mine Geologist with planning and prioritization of geological activities across the mine leases, where requested.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Job Specific Competencies 

  • Familiarity with Datamine, OreController, Datashed, Snowden supervisor or similar usage is advantageous.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including report writing.
  • Excellent data analytical skills

Experience required to perform in this job

  • At least 3 years’ experience in the mining industry with the majority spent in mining production.
  • Operational experience in open pit Copper and Nickel mining deposits is advantageous.
  • Practical experience in field ore control, diamond drilling, reverse circulation drilling and pit mapping is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Full grade twelve (G12) certificate.
  • Recognised degree in Geoscience.
  • Full clean manual class B SADC driver’s licence
